1980 Happenings of note
Iran releases U.S. hostages / Ronald Reagan elected U.S. President
These events will forever be connected by political theorists (and those of the conspiracy variety, though possibly with good reason). Reagan defeats Jimmy Carter’s bid for a 2nd term and brings in “The Great Communicator” decade of trickle down economics, Star Wars defense system, regime-propping, AIDS-ignoring, end of Cold War, ‘greed is good’ era that featured fashions sure to never be repeated. Except even then, I knew they would be. That’s why my school nickname was “Nostradamus Jr.”
