All those little words.
“You are good at making trail mix”
she said.
”It’s tough to get the right ratio, and you are good at it.”
“You are pretty funny sometimes,”
she said.
”Of course sometimes you’re not. But sometimes you are.”
“You are good at making playlists and CDs,”
she said.
”I have been listening to this one a lot.”
(And she told me the one, a one that had James, Cloud Cult, and Tame Impala on it.)
“You are pretty tan,”
she said.
”And by that, I mean pretty fit.”
“You are okay at making mediocre coffee sometimes,”
she said.
”Sometimes.”
“You are missed very much.”
she said.
”By me.”
Little words matter, and even if you’ve forgotten the little meaningful things you might have said to someone…
…there’s always the strong possibility I haven’t.
