Mona Rachel (je ne sais quoi, of course).

Je ne sais quoi, means, of course “I don’t know.”

The most famous example of je ne sais quoi in art, of course, is arguably the most famous painting in the world. Leonardo da Vinci’s 1503 masterpiece Mona Lisa. Its subject, a woman, smiles with an enigma that follows you around and carries a thousand meanings. It’s mysterious and beautiful.

My sister (in-law) and buddy, pictured here with her little living work of art, sometimes reminds me of a Scandinavian Mona Lisa. A mysterious and beautiful gaze that carries a thousand meanings as well…but is never devoid of grace, charm, and joy.

Also, she rocks overalls like a mamamotha. Take that, M. Lis. Thank you, my bud, for filling the world with a little more beauty and mystery.

Beautiful mama and toddler-age daughter wearing overalls and sitting in grass.
